Isart Press was established in November 2016 to publish fine quality illustrated books about British women artists of the twentieth century whose work deserves extended critical study but so far has not received it. Isart’s registered office is in Edinburgh. Marketing and distribution are in the hands of John Rule Art Book Distribution. Isart Press books may be ordered through normal commercial channels.
Our first book, published in January 2017, celebrates the work of Isabel Alexander (1910-1996), a Slade-trained artist whose long and varied career included documentary film, book illustration, portraiture, landscapes, seascapes and abstracts, and whose media encompassed, drawing, lithography, water colour, oils and reliefs.
The book’s publication coincides with the opening of a retrospective exhibition, Isabel Alexander: artist and illustrator, at the Mercer Gallery, Harrogate, from 14 January to 4 June 2017, and with the publication of images of the 73 images of the artist’s works by the online Bridgeman Library, where in January 2017 she was Artist of the Month.
